Topographies of Memory

My latest series, “Topographies of Memory,” draws inspiration from the natural world, focusing on the intricate process of rock and stone formation. Through detailed depictions and a nature-inspired color palette, I capture the textures and evolution of geological structures. Each layer of my work embodies the passage of time, preserving history while highlighting its transient nature. This series reflects my ongoing fascination with memory, freezing moments in time while acknowledging its continuous flow.

Interferences

The “Interferences” series explores the concept of memory through the metaphor of a wall bearing traces of objects that once hung on it. Over time, dust settled and fixed the shapes, creating a layered history of the place. My paintings use simple lines and layered compositions to mirror this process, with some elements fading and others leaving a permanent mark. Additionally, an installation created from used self-adhesive foils complements the paintings, emphasizing the theme of memory accumulation.

Laboratory of water, paper and watercolor

“The Laboratory” series delves into the interactions between water and paper, exploring their unique properties. Paper can both obscure and reveal, emphasizing what lies beneath its surface. This series attempts to capture the intangible nature of water through the tactile medium of paper, creating preserved traces of shapes. The interplay between these elements highlights their ability to transform and enhance perception, offering a fresh perspective on materiality and form.

Picture’s memory

My paintings explore the multi-generational history embodied in family heirlooms, which often go unnoticed until they are discarded. Using thin paper, I cover discarded or flea market paintings, preserving their shapes with paint to highlight the significance on both sides. This process reflects the idea that objects, though seemingly mundane, hold immense potential and value. Inspired by Michael Thompson’s categories of transient, durable, and rubbish objects, I aim to recover and elevate these forgotten pieces. As Kantor suggests, it’s not about replicating objects in art but about uncovering their intrinsic “objectiveness” and hidden worth.
